What you need
- A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 13 or later — or a Windows PC with Windows 10 or 11 and an x64 processor.
- An internet connection: the AI models run in the cloud.
- A NEO account. The agent in the app runs on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans; payments open soon. The free web chat is available right now.
Installing on Mac
- Open the Download page and download the Mac installer (a .dmg file).
- Open the downloaded file and drag NEO into the Applications folder.
- Launch NEO. macOS will warn that it can’t verify the developer: the app isn’t signed by Apple yet.
- Open “System Settings → Privacy & Security,” scroll down and click “Open Anyway.” Confirm once more.
You only need to do this once: after that, NEO launches like any other app.
Installing on Windows
- Download the Windows installer from the Download page.
- Run it and choose a folder for NEO.
- If Windows SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher, click “More info” → “Run anyway.”
- Open NEO from the Start menu.
Check that the file is genuine
The system warning is only about the missing signature. To make sure the installer is genuine and downloaded completely, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the line on the Download page.
On a Mac, open Terminal and run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/file-name.dmg. On Windows, open PowerShell and run Get-FileHash .\file-name.exe -Algorithm SHA256. If the strings match, the file is fine.
Signing in
- In the app, click “Sign in”: NEO shows a code and opens the connection page in your browser.
- Sign in to your NEO account if you haven’t already.
- Check that the code on the page matches the code in the app and click “Connect.” Only confirm a code you see in your own app.
- Go back to NEO Desktop — sign-in finishes on its own.
Your first task
Create a chat and connect a folder to it — for example, an empty folder for a new website. The agent will work only inside it. Choose a model and describe the task in plain words.
“Ask first” mode is on by default: the agent performs important actions after you allow them. How to phrase tasks so the agent gets them right the first time is covered in the guide How to write tasks for an AI agent.
